Today's program was about the Lake County Land Reutilization Corporation (LCLRC).  Presenting was John Rogers, Director of the LCLRC, and also State Representative for House District 60.  The LCLRC is a non-profit organization, not a government entity, and is funded in part by delinquent property taxes in Lake County.  It was created in part as a response to the ever-increasing number of foreclosures in Lake County from 2000 - 2010; though this number has begun to decline in the last three years.  The program serves as a land bank, to which properties may be donated; the organization then demolishes them and creates green space.  This helps neighborhoods in several ways, among them the prevention of (further) property value decline that is caused by foreclosed homes and the creation of attractive and safe green space where there once was blight and potential for crime activity.  The program has an initiative called Moving Ohio Forward, through which 58 properties (in numerous cities throughout Lake County) have been demolished to date, with another handful slated to be demolished in the coming months.  The properties are demolished at no cost to the city or township.  For more information, please visit their website at: http://thrivingcommunitiesinstitute.org/ohio-land-bank-lake.html.
