Stories

Happy Bucks:

  • Johanna thanked Mary Jo Miller and also Eileen and the staff of Bella Donna for holding a fundraiser last week to benefit the victims of human trafficking.  Bella Donna Salon and Spa donated spa services - the event was fantastic, had a great turnout, and was a big success.
  • Brian Kane's son Colin's soccer team is 12-0!

Rota Bucks:

  • Maureen Kelly won the drawing of $23; the Queen lives, and is up to $362.

Birthdays:

  • Dan Bray's birthday was September 19th, and George Inscho's birthday was October 1st.  Happy Birthday, gentlemen!

Announcements:

  • Vanessa Clark has author's copies of her husband's book, Star Wars FAQ, available for $20 (lower than if purchased on Amazon).
  • Stu noted that the Grants Committee is in need of a Chair and also another member or two, as Lee Homyock is on a temporary leave of absence.  Sue Palliser stepped up to be Chair, and Abby and Jean both volunteered to serve on the Committee.
  • Sue Ellis is heading up a fundraiser day on October 28th, where Bob Evans restaurants will donate a portion of their sales to Rotary in honor of World Polio Day.
  • Rotary International has an opportunity for Rotarians to travel to West Africa - the cost is $1779, double occupancy.
  • Rotary International is part of the 70th Anniversary of the United Nations - which Rotary helped to establish - and invites us all to join them in NYC on November 7 to celebrate.

Today's program was a Business Meeting for the club.  Stu gave a general update about the club from last night's Board meeting: we are in good shape, and are doing well financially.  Brad Brown gave a great presentation on the importance of everyone participating in the March fundraiser.  He presented two budget scenarios - one a Baseline and one a Stretch - the success of the fundraiser really depends very heavily on the active participation of every club member taking part in the various components of the event: selling tickets to the event itself, selling iPad raffle tickets, volunteering for pre- or during-event jobs, donating wine and auction items, and so on.  The event's primary beneficiary will be Forbes House, but as with all Rotary fundraisers, proceeds will also benefit other fantastic causes.  With ALL HANDS ON DECK, we can make this event a success like none before it!
