Today's speaker was Barry Alexandre, the Regional representative for Secretary of State Jon Husted.  He presented a lot of information on a variety of issues that the Secretary of State handles, from business registration to voting.  Ohio is one of the easiest states for voting, as we provide 28 days of early voting, and then a 29th day which is Election Day.  Also, we are able to do 'no-fault' absentee ballots, which means we can vote absentee without having to have it excused or justified.  The Secretary of State's office tries to encourage people to consider being Precinct Election Officials (aka Poll Workers) on voting days, and highlighted the efforts of the Secretary of State with regard to voting and the military - one example of which is the ability of those deployed on land or at sea.  He also reinforced the idea that every vote counts, and noted some modern-day instances in which votes were tied, and had to be determined by a coin toss!  The Secretary's office also has a host of resources for those starting and/or running businesses - including a start-up checklist of all the practical steps involved in opening a business.  Also, the Secretary's office provides commendations for big events or milestones - wedding anniversaries, business anniversaries or achievements, etc. - and requested that we contact the office whenever we have something that is worthy of commendation - they enjoy providing them!  There is a wealth of information on their website, including information about the Founding Fathers of Ohio.  Please visit: www.OhioSecretaryofState.gov and also www.OhioMilitaryVotes.com and www.PEOinOHIO.com for more information.
