Today's speakers were from Learning About Business (LAB) - Mike Cosmo and Yvonne LeDeux.  They gave an overview about the LAB program, which is celebrating its 35th year in operation.  The program is a week-long program that gives participants an immersion experience in business, including designing a business, learning about finances, selecting leaders, developing mission, vision, brand/logo, etc.  Participants live on the campus of Lake Erie College during the program, and those who participate are selected through a competitive application process.  This year's program will have 63 participants, the majority of whom are from Lake County, but also have representation from Cuyahoga, Geauga, and Ashtabula Counties as well.  Programs past have had international participants, and the program is available to applicants from anywhere.  LAB is supported through foundations and donations, and relies heavily on the donation of time from professionals in the community who share their experience and teach the participants.  The over-arching goals of the program are to increase students' financial literacy, to increase students' entrepreneurial skills, and inspire them to hopefully lend their talents to - and live in - Lake County once they enter the business world.  More information can be found on their website (www.learningaboutbusiness.org) or by emailing info@learningabout business.org.
