Rota Bucks:

  • Lee won $28 in today's raffle, and the Queen of Spades drawing is up to $589.

Birthdays:

  • Kathleen Cotter - Happy Birthday, Kathleen! :)

Announcements:

  • James Mango announced that the Fine Arts Association's Annual event is coming up on May 8, and hopes that everyone will consider attending.  He also requested that Rotary consider purchasing a table, as we have in the past, to support the organization.
  • Eileen is helping with Sharon's Hope again this year - it's a Relay for Life fundraiser in honor of a former Rotarian; if you would like to attend or donate an item for the chinese auction, please see Eileen.  The event is on June 6.
  • Larry announced that the Rotary 90th Anniversary will be in June, 2016, and plans are already underway for a celebration.  Please let him know if you would like to be part of the planning!
  • Extended Housing is seeking help building some flower beds for their McKinley Grove property.  All materials will be provided, and this is likely a half-day time commitment.
  • Deb announced that the Reverse Raffle wrap-up meeting will be next Monday at 5:00 (to 6:00) - all are welcome to attend, particularly if you would like to be part of the planning for next year's fundraising event.
  • Brian Kane went to the 4-Way Speech Contest last weekend at Aurora High School - it was excellent.  He said that the student representing our club did a great job, and the other students did very well too.
  • Johanna announced that The Cleveland Women's Orchestra will be having their 80th Anniversary concert at Severance Hall next Sunday (April 25) at 3:30.  The program is an excellent one, with a very talented violin soloist (Michael Ferra).  Tickets are $10, $15, and $20.

Happy Bucks:

  • Stu gave a happy buck in honor of Judy taking over as Membership Chair from him, and gave another one in honor of Donna and Sue Palliser making a banner to display all the different Rotary flags the club has.

Today's speaker was Stephanie Morton from The Shoppe in the City.  Located on South State Street (near the intersection of State and Main, next to Sidewalk Cafe), The Shoppe is owned by the Lake County Educational Service Center, and is a sister store to Unique Like Us.  It is a training site for adults with disabilities: it provides training for and experience working in a retail setting, and the adults that work there learn cash management, inventory, cleaning, etc.  The store carries varied and ever-changing inventory, comprising local vendors' merchandise - some examples include coffee mugs, historical prints, candles, popcorn, and hand-made note cards.  There was a table full of merchandise at the meeting today, and Rotarian were able to shop, which was fantastic!  Please take a minute to visit and like their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Shoppe-in-the-City/682824005159079?fref=ts
