  • Extended Housing's project day is this Saturday; the group will be building some flower beds for their McKinley Grove property.  All materials will be provided, and this is likely a half-day time commitment.  Eight Rotarians are currently signed up, but there is room for more, so please feel free to sign up or show up!

Happy Bucks:

  • Vanessa gave a happy buck in honor of her husband, Mark, winning a Rondo Award, which is a great achievement for writing in the horror story genre.  Congratulations!!

Today's speaker was Dan Ruminski, Storyteller, who gave a fascinating presentation about the Famous and Infamous Women of Cleveland's Millionaire's Row.  Described by Mark Twain as "the grandest street in all the world," the 4-mile stretch of Euclid Avenue known as Millionaire's Row was once home to 250 mansions, and a big part of earning Cleveland the designation as the wealthiest city in the world in 1885.  He told the story of the famous Flora Stone Mather, whose legacy is still seen all over Cleveland, and also the story of the infamous Cassie Chadwick.  There was so much wealth in this era, but along with the money came the belief that it was important to give back; as a result, when one looks around Cleveland, one will see that the art institutions, the hospitals, parts of universities... everything all started back on Millionaire's Row, and has led to Cleveland having the current designation as being the most charitable city in the world.  Mr. Ruminski speaks regularly around Northeast Ohio, so there is plenty of opportunity to hear him tell his stories, and also you can find more information at www.clevelandhistorylessons.com.
