Today's speakers were Lynn Kary, Carrie Dotson, and Ame West from Western Reserve Junior Service League (WRJSL).  They gave an overview of the organization and some information about their upcoming fundraiser, Follies.  They also showed a clip from the most recent Follies to give the group an idea of what sort of skits are presented - it was very funny!  The WRJSL was formed in 1936 by three women - one of whom is our own Sue Ellis! - who saw a need in the community and formed WRJSL to help meet that need.  WRJSL raises money through fundraising, and in turn awards grants to 501(c)(3) organizations in Lake, Geauga, and Ashtabula Counties.  Just a small sampling of grant recipients includes Rabbit Run Community Arts Association, the Humane Society, Habitat for Humanity, Lake County Free Clinic, and Birthright.  WRJSL provided initial funding early in its history to Laketran and Broadmoor, both of which received start-up funds from WRJSL.  The group has two fundraising events - Candlelight Vigil in December, and the bi-annual Follies in May.  Follies made its debut in 1964 and nets around $30,000 each event.  To date, WRJSL has donated some $1.1 million to the community through grant-making.  This year's Follies is being held on May 1 nd May 2 - sponsorship opportunities are still available, as are tickets.  Please see their website at www.wrjsl.org for more information about the organization, its grant cycles, and fundraising events!
